Homeschool Preschool

I have been thinking a lot the last couple weeks about how uninvolved I have been with Wyatt's preschooling. Life got a little hectic right after Wyatt started preschool, so after weeks "A" and "B" I basically stopped reinforcing the things they're learning at school.... and let's be honest, a few times, I forgot to even open his backpack until 2-5 days later when he was headed off to school again. So, as part of my New Year's resolutions to foster my kids more in the academic areas, I put together a little learning center at home, got out all my old preschool stuff (from high school), and started doing a little learning-time each day. We have a letter a week, practice songs, counting, talk about different community topics (ie: this week is jobs- bakers, policemen, firemen, doctors, etc).

Colton loves it. He loves letters and sounds and learning. Wyatt.... I am hoping he shows come kind of satisfaction in learning letters soon. He'd really rather make up stories, find hidden treasures, and pretend he's a dragon/doctor/spiderman/anything but himself.

So... question. If I can work on these things at home all week, why should I pay someone else to teach Wyatt? And can twice a week really sink in the way every day would? He is super-social and around other kids all the time, so that really isn't one of my concerns. Maybe it would be best to do both. Input from other moms (or I guess anyone with an opinion) would be great..... ?

Yay! A Becky Home Ecky update!!! Love it. :) I think what you are doing is great!! I don't know if I would be that committed myself. But if you really are, then why not just do it yourself instead of pay someone else. My sis Misty does preschool at home with her youngest Corbin and she has loved it. Since moving up here and not knowing other kids yet, Lacey really needs to meet others and have that social interaction. If I left it up to Lacey, she would rather stay home. She has lots of anxiety when I'm not there, so I have to push her to go to preschool. But if Wy is already around other kids a lot and you can teach him yourself, then I'd save the money for a rainy day. :)

Save the money is my opinion. I have been homeschooling for a while now and my opinion is you know your kids learning style and personality and no one is more qualified than you to do the job. Every family has to do what is best for them and there homemlife, but that is my personal thought. Especially if he wants to do things like looks for treasures and be super heroes you can use that--go on treasure hunts for the mysterios missing letter "s" or make a trasore map that has different letters he has to find to lead him to the "treasure". Make a super hero named captain "P" and his mission is to write it a cerain amount of times before the bad guys comes. Or he has to make the "puh" sound 10 times will eating popcorn. Silly things like that are ways that you can play on his interests and still integrate learning. He isn't a structured learner at this time in his life--he is 4 adn he is a boy. If he is home with you, you can make it fun.

Sorry to blabber on. I have alot of opinions on this topic.

Love ya!
